Bar 11 at Newcastle Airport

Structural engineering that performs - in theatres, airports, and live event spaces across the UK.

Bar 11 at Newcastle Airport
Bar 11 needed to feel open, flexible and premium - but still handle constant use. Our job was to support that vision structurally, from the panoramic glazing to the high-load flooring, without slowing down the fit-out.

Airport Retail

At MJ Consulting Engineers, we take pride in delivering expert structural engineering solutions that enhance airport concession and retail spaces. Our latest collaboration on the refurbishment of Bar 11 at Newcastle Airport showcases our ability to design for high-traffic, dynamic environments while maintaining both style and functionality.

Our Role in the Project

Bar 11, a long-standing favourite among Newcastle Airport passengers, has undergone a complete transformation as part of a 12-week renovation project. The upgraded venue now features a sleek, contemporary design with elegant wooden panelling and murals celebrating the North East’s iconic landmarks. With seating for up to 330 passengers, the bar provides a vibrant, welcoming space where travellers can relax before their journey.

MJC played a key role in ensuring the structural integrity of the renovation while accommodating the design vision. Our engineering solutions supported several key elements of the space, including:

  • Panoramic Runway Views – The bar’s towering floor-to-ceiling windows offer a breathtaking view of the airfield, requiring precise structural support to maintain both aesthetic appeal and durability.

  • Flexible Seating Configurations – From intimate booths to spacious dining tables, the layout needed structural adaptability to optimise passenger flow and maximise comfort.

  • High-Load Capacity Flooring & Fixtures – Given the bar’s high footfall, we designed solutions that ensure long-term durability while seamlessly integrating with the updated décor.

Enhancing the Passenger Experience

Airports are fast-moving environments that demand innovative design solutions to balance efficiency, safety, and visual impact. Our work on Bar 11 aligns with Newcastle Airport’s commitment to offering diverse, high-quality dining experiences that improve the passenger journey. By creating an inviting and structurally sound environment, MJC has contributed to making Bar 11 a standout feature in the airport’s catering offering.
