J2 Festival Temporary Stage Structures

Structural engineering that performs - in theatres, airports, and live event spaces across the UK.

J2 Festival Temporary Stage Structures
Temporary stages need to handle huge loads, shifting weather, and tight build times - all while looking effortless. Our job was to make sure each structure could take the pressure, stay safe, and meet the demands of a live environment.

Live Events

Structural design reviews, load assessments, and on-site engineering for one of London’s leading music and arts festivals

MJ Consulting Engineers was appointed to provide structural engineering support for the temporary stages at the annual J2 Festival - a large-scale live event known for its ambitious programming and bold staging.

With five bespoke stage structures planned across the site, MJC was responsible for ensuring full compliance with UK safety standards while supporting the creative and technical needs of the production teams.

Our Role

MJC’s scope included:

  • Structural design reviews for all five proposed stages

  • Load assessments for each structure, including crowd loading, equipment      weights, and wind exposure

  • Foundation design, including ballast and screw pile solutions for secure      anchoring

  • On-site engineering support during construction to supervise assembly and ensure compliance

  • Final sign-off documentation confirming structural safety and readiness for live use

Each stage required a tailored approach to suit its specific size, equipment configuration, and exposure to environmental conditions.

Challenges

As with any large outdoor festival, the key challenge was delivering safe, stable structures in a temporary setting - under tight timeframes and changing weather conditions. MJC’s role was to ensure that each stage could safely support heavy AV equipment, lighting rigs, and crowd loads while remaining adaptable to the festival’s creative demands.

Our engineers worked closely with the production and construction teams from design through to build, helping deliver a structurally sound and visually impressive festival environment.

The Result

With thousands of attendees and a packed programme of performances, the J2 Festival ran successfully and safely. MJC’s technical input ensured the temporary infrastructure met all safety requirements - giving organisers, performers, and audiences confidence in the structures supporting the show.
