Airport Retail

At MJ Consulting Engineers, we pride ourselves on delivering innovative structural engineering solutions that enable exceptional spaces. Our recent collaboration on Monty’s All Day Diner at Liverpool John Lennon Airport exemplifies our expertise in designing for dynamic, high-traffic environments like airport concessions and retail spaces.

Our Role in the Project

Monty’s All Day Diner, inspired by classic 1950s American diners, is part of Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s £9 million redevelopment of its food and beverage offerings. Located in the departure lounge after security, the restaurant replaces the former Estuary Kitchen & Bar. With seating for nearly 200 passengers, Monty’s offers a nostalgic yet modern dining experience.

MJC played a pivotal role in this transformation, ensuring the space not only met rigorous structural requirements but also delivered on the aesthetic vision. By working closely with the design and construction teams, we developed engineering solutions that supported the unique features of the venue, such as:

  • Neon Accents and Mirrored Bar: These elements required specialised support systems to integrate seamlessly with the diner’s vintage-inspired look.

  • Flexible Seating Arrangements: From cosy booths to sleek counter seating, the layout demanded structural adaptability to optimise passenger flow and maximise comfort.

  • High-Traffic Durability: As a venue potentially catering to thousands of passengers daily, the structure was engineered for long-term durability and resilience under constant use.

Improving the Passenger Journey

Airports are fast-paced environments requiring careful planning to balance functionality, safety, and style. At MJC, we specialise in structural solutions tailored to airport concessions and retail spaces, ensuring projects meet tight timelines and high-quality standards. Monty’s Diner is a testament to this approach, aligning with Liverpool Airport’s mission to enhance the passenger experience with diverse, high-quality dining options.

This aligns perfectly with MJC’s goal of designing spaces that enhance user experiences while meeting operational demands. By creating an inviting, structurally sound environment, Monty’s has become a key part of the airport’s redevelopment, offering passengers a place to relax and enjoy family-friendly meals before their journey.
