Starbucks Shop Outfit Heathrow T2
Structural engineering that performs - in theatres, airports, and live event spaces across the UK.

Working in a live terminal like Heathrow means everything has to be right first time. Our focus was on making sure the structure supported the layout, equipment, and services - without slowing down the build.

Structural engineering for a high-footfall retail fit-out in a busy terminal environment
MJ Consulting Engineers provided full structural consultancy for the delivery of a new Starbucks outlet at London Heathrow Terminal 2. This project required careful integration of structural design, services coordination, and interior fit-out - all in compliance with Heathrow’s strict operational standards.
The Challenge
Fitting out a retail unit in a live airport terminal demands detailed planning and absolute compliance. MJC was responsible for ensuring structural support across all key elements, including ceiling-mounted lighting, equipment, MEP systems, and HVAC - all while working within a compact footprint and an active airside environment.
With high footfall and limited installation windows, the project also required a layout that worked efficiently for both customers and operational staff, without impacting the wider terminal flow.
Our Role
MJC delivered full structural engineering support throughout the project, including:
Coordination with the interior design and fit-out teams
Structural calculations for all fixed equipment and ceiling loads
Detailed documentation and reporting for Heathrow approvals
On-site support during installation and final inspections
Ongoing liaison with stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery
Every element was engineered to meet performance, safety, and compliance requirements without affecting the overall programme.
The Outcome
The completed Starbucks unit delivers a well-executed retail space that meets brand expectations and operational demands. MJC’s role ensured the structure supported every technical requirement, while allowing the interior to function effectively in a high-traffic environment.
