ABTT

We’re proud to announce that MJ Consulting Engineers is now a Bronze Member of the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT).

This new membership marks an exciting step forward in our ongoing commitment to supporting the design, safety, and structural evolution of theatres and live performance venues across the UK.

Strengthening Our Commitment to Theatre Infrastructure

Since 1996, MJC has delivered structural engineering services for a wide range of performance spaces - from listed West End theatres to regional arts venues, live touring environments, and temporary staging structures.

Whether it’s the rigging points above a stage or the steelwork behind a front-of-house fit-out, our work is rooted in a deep understanding of how theatres function - and how structure can support both safety and artistic ambition.

Becoming part of the ABTT allows us to engage even more closely with theatre technicians, venue managers, production teams, and fellow consultants working to raise standards across the industry.

What ABTT Membership Means for MJC

The Association of British Theatre Technicians is a key voice in the UK performing arts sector, bringing together professionals who shape the environments where live performance happens.

As Bronze Members, we’re proud to contribute our structural perspective to ABTT’s network and mission - sharing knowledge, supporting technical excellence, and playing an active role in the ongoing development of theatre infrastructure.

Our membership reflects our values: collaborative working, technical integrity, and a deep respect for the unique demands of live performance environments.

Structural Engineering That Supports the Stage

At MJC, our work in theatres spans:

  • Rigging grid upgrades and fly tower reinforcement

  • Stage house refurbishments and ceiling void inspections

  • Load assessments for production installations

  • Temporary structure design for events, signage, and set builds

  • Listed building coordination and adaptive reuse

Every project is an opportunity to improve safety, enhance technical potential, and help create spaces where creativity thrives.

Looking Ahead

We look forward to learning from - and contributing to - the ABTT community as we continue to deliver structural engineering that performs under pressure, behind the scenes.

If you're planning a theatre refurbishment, structural inspection, or need advice on staging infrastructure, we’d love to hear from you.
