MJ Consulting (MJC) took the lead in delivering a successful and efficient shop outfit for the Starbucks outlet at London Heathrow Terminal 2. This project was not just about creating a coffee shop but rather a harmonious blend of structural and interior design, load assessment, and rigorous adherence to Heathrow and UK standards. MJC were entrusted with the responsibility to ensure the structural integrity, safety, and functionality of the Starbucks outlet, and this approach resulted in a seamless and vibrant addition to the terminal.

Challenges Faced:

One of the primary challenges was to adhere to the stringent standards set by London Heathrow Airport and the UK. This encompassed not only the structural design but also the load assessment for ceiling features, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), and all the equipment within the outlet.

Given the high traffic and limited space within an airport terminal, optimising the layout and ensuring the efficient use of space were crucial factors in the design. The goal was to create an inviting and comfortable environment for customers while ensuring that the Starbucks outlet did not disrupt the terminal’s operations.

Our approach:

We worked closely with the interior design team to create a shop front and interior that not only met the structural requirements but also embodied the Starbucks brand identity. This collaboration ensured a seamless integration of aesthetics and functionality.

We conducted a comprehensive load assessment for ceiling features, MEP, HVAC systems, and all equipment. Calculations were carried out meticulously to ensure that the structural components could withstand the imposed loads and that safety standards were met.

A comprehensive report was generated, including all calculations and findings, to document the structural design and load assessments. This report was instrumental in obtaining the necessary approvals and ensuring transparency throughout the project.

We provided on-site support during the construction phase, overseeing the implementation of the design and addressing any unforeseen challenges. The project was finalised only after a thorough inspection and ensuring that all Heathrow and UK standards were met.

The London Heathrow Terminal 2 Starbucks shop outfit project was a resounding success. The final outcome seamlessly combined aesthetic appeal with structural integrity and met all Heathrow and UK standards. The outlet now stands as an inviting and efficient space for travellers to enjoy their favourite Starbucks beverages and treats while waiting for their flights.
