“We were trusted with every aspect of this upgrade - structure, theatre systems, and services - and had just 14 weeks to deliver it all. The new grid gives the Dominion the kind of flexibility today’s productions demand, without compromising its listed heritage.”
Existing venue fabric, production loads and limited downtime.

What the brief was — and what we delivered.
MJC led the remodelling of the stage grid at the Grade II-listed Dominion Theatre, a major upgrade designed to increase technical capacity and production flexibility.
Brief
The existing grid limited the scale and variety of productions the theatre could host. The project required a modern, high-capacity system capable of supporting larger rigging loads and more flexible staging configurations.
MJC's scope
- Structural design and delivery of the new grid system.
- Integration of a new loft block flying system.
- Coordination of mechanical and electrical services.
- Architectural input and theatre consultancy.
- On-site presence throughout construction.
Programme and outcome
MJC oversaw the wider delivery across a tight 14-week on-site programme. The result is a significantly upgraded stage house that gives the Dominion greater flexibility while respecting its listed heritage.
The work, on site.
